Meet Dr. Helen Tran
From the Desk to the Treatment Room
Dr. Helen Tran was born and raised in Edmonton and moved to Calgary to study acupuncture at ACATCM. She has lived here for 6 years and now calls the city home. She has been practicing acupuncture for 2 years, with 8 years as a Registered Massage Therapist behind her.
Those years of hands-on massage work gave her a strong understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, and how tension lives in the body. That foundation led her into acupuncture, which is now the focus of her practice — a more precise way to find where pain is coming from and release it.
She primarily treats old injuries and musculoskeletal issues, including neck and shoulder pain, low back and lumbar pain, hip and glute pain from long hours of sitting, numbness or tingling down the arms, and poor posture. After years of seeing these patterns, she has a clear sense of where to look, even when the sore spot is not the whole story.
Dr. Tran takes an integrated approach. She often starts with soft-tissue massage on the affected area, then follows with what that visit needs — electro-acupuncture, dry needling, auricular acupuncture, hand-therapy acupuncture, or fire cupping. She uses her judgment in the moment to decide what is best for the patient that day.
She also treats digestive issues, stress and mental health concerns, and sleep problems using traditional methods, including Five Elements, Yin-Yang, Master Tung, and Dr. Tan’s Balance Method.
Dr. Tran takes time to build trust with her patients. With new patients especially, she pays attention to what they say, how they show up, and what she feels during assessment — including the things people don’t always put into words. That helps her get to the real issue more clearly and build a treatment plan that fits them.
Her work is practical and efficient. The goal is longer-lasting results, so patients feel more in control of their discomfort, not just better for a day or two. She keeps learning through reading and continuing education, staying curious about the body and better ways to help people feel well.
